MY UPHOLSTERY AND RUST IS FAMOUS
Even though many people have reupholstered Mustang and Capri seats before, there really aren't any instructions on how to do it. When I redid my seats, I took pictures and wrote instructions which I was going to put up on this website, but instead they are now part of the internet at CJ Pony Parts.

CARPET AND SEATS
The hold up on the interior was the interior quarter panels.
When trying to order new upholstery, the front seats are fairly easy to identify from pictures and fit all almost all years 1979-1993 depending on which style seat you have. The rear seats are a little trickier because most of the kits online don't show a picture of the rear seat. If you are ordering the factory correct color for your year, there will not be any problems. In 1984, the "split-rear seat" (rear seat backs fold down independently, bottom rear seat is one piece bench seat) became standard, so the one piece rear back (79-83) will not work in 84 and up. It seems like the upholstery from 84-93 is the same for the rear seats, but THE MOUNTS ARE DIFFERENT. Since black wasn't an option from 84-89, most websites make it harder to get that color for a certain year.
GOING BLACK
It's not that I really wanted a black interior, but black is an easier color to match with paint, dye, etc. Here is a helpful link on going to a black interior. It doesn't have everything, but it is still good. If I would have read this before, I would have known my quarter panels wouldn't work...
FEP - Black Interchangeability Guide
I called CJ Pony Parts, and when they didn't know if the upholstery sets had a split-rear seat, I called TMI. TMI couldn't tell me either, they just said there is only one option for seat configurations, so just order by year. I tried explaining that black wasn't a factory option and for that reason wasn't listed for that year... It seems like at both places whoever you talk to on the phone is using the same website that you are looking at, so they are not much help. Also each place has different part numbers and don't make any effort to cross-reference. If you need the split-rear seat, just pretend that you are ordering a kit for a 90-92 Mustang, and make sure the front seats pictured are correct in the kit.
